Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
