Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
